Tips how to survive in the untamed forest

02/11/2018

Who says that a traveler can't get lost? It happens more often than you might think. But as a result, you'll have the greatest stories ever. To make sure that you'll stay on the safe side of things, I am going to share these tips that will make your moments of being lost in the wilderness cool and perhaps even enjoyable.

Find a means of communication

When going out for an adventure, it's always necessary to let family and close friends of the trip. Give details on the location and expected time to be spent away. This will enable them know if something goes wrong when you are not back after the said period has elapsed. Be as specific as possible giving details on the route to use, mode of transport etcetera.

Most noteworthy, carry a device that will help in communication in the forest since most mobile devices don't get a signal. A satellite phone might come in handy.

Have a positive outlook

The key to surviving any tragedy is to keep a positive mind. This state helps to come up with solutions to solve the predicament. Moreover, be realistic, stop, breathe and think about every action to take to avoid landing in more trouble.

Find a safe location

It is important to identify a location that is safe to stay. You can build a shelter to protect yourself from weather elements and wild animals. Make use of twigs, leaves and limbs to secure the structure. Remember to protect yourself by wearing gloves and other protective gear to avoid injury.

Mind your body

Although you are in a survival mode, find ways to keep your body performing optimally by eating, drinking and keeping warm. Taking care of the body will ensure you remain strong while keeping focused mind.

Find what is available to eat such as leaves, fruits and even bugs (Yes, you heard me!) and find a source of water, boil and drink to keep hydrated. Keep warm by lighting a fire. What's more, the fire will keep away bugs and predators.

Have a tool e.g. a knife on you at all times for protection. You never know what you may need it for. If you don't have one, make one! A compass for direction may also come in handy.
